Jan. 20: Discussion of today's events in relation to nation's history

  • Mamaroneck Woman’s Club 504 Cortlandt Ave. Mamaroneck, NY United States (map)

The Mamaroneck Historical Society will have their monthly members meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 7 p.m. at the Mamaroneck Woman’s Club at 504 Cortlandt Ave., Mamaroneck. We will be having a discussion of our recent historical events in relation to our past history. This will not be a political discussion as difficult as that might sound. Our president, John Pritts, will be the moderator for the discussion. He has promised to not take sides. We are looking to have a civil discourse on how recent history relates to what has happened in the past.

John will begin the discussion with examples of events in our history that might not conform with modern sensibilities or might have been manufactured by religious, financial, cultural, and land actions of the time that might be questionable in today’s cultural norms.

The most accepted definition of history is “the study of past events, particularly in human affairs” or “a continuous, typically chronological, record of important or public events or of a particular trend or institution.” In a more general sense, history could be thought of as a record of change over time.

We hope that you will come and join us in this discussion. We are looking for civility in our discourse about a subject that could become contentious. We certainly hope that we all will become respectful listeners to all involved. We are not looking for monologues but more a sharing of ideas.

Please join us for what could be a fun and informative historical talk.
